random leftovers from y'days sermon

1. i blew it by forgetting/failing to tell you that Jesus loved God the way that the catechism question said is demanded by the 1st commandment. and that record of righteousness is OURS, received by faith.

2. Apollos never received baptism in Jesus' name, or baptism for the forgiveness of sins... which is troublesome if one thinks that a certain water baptism is a requisite for salvation

3. 19:1 as paul enters ephesus/achaia... this is a door that was SHUT by the Holy Spirit 2-3 years prior (remember acts 16? when the HS wouldn't let Paul go there?)
Are their doors that God previously shut for you that He may be opening now. Is one shut by Him today that He may open later?

4. One more on baptism... some churches/groups that want to say, "We do baptism just like the bible teaches!" are very inconsistent, in my opinion. Example, they may say the Ephesus 12 weren't saved until they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. But that same church/group will not be as strident in demanding verse 6, the tongues and prophesy. Seems inconsistent, hmmm?

This is where I have more respect for the snake-handling pentecostals who seek to be consistent with their bible interpretation (i.e. hermeneutic.
